Talk:Running Gags
Page Header Captions
I liked what Gerson did so much with the Meet The Cappers page, I did it here, too. Perhaps choose a cap to represent each category page? Each page in general? Seeing an example of each cappers work on their own page? Arch 04:31, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
I'll keep an eye out, but Bigstupid's cap was just too right on to pass up. When he made it I was tempted to ask if he knew about the wiki, but then if he didn't know, I'd have said too much and would have to kill him. Which would have been a pain, since I think he lives in Alaska. Oh yeah, the captions - if we find good fits, sure. If not, I can live without em.

I like the caption-per-category idea :) It helps to set this listing apart from the other wiki-style reference areas. That was a great one of Bigstupid's to use!

Shat and stuff
Okay, we do HAVE to add Shatner to this list, but... how? How... should we... ADD... therunningjoke? Under one Shatner header, or individually under items like Shatner's Toupee, Shatner's Girdle, and Shatner's Acting? Your analysis, Mr Spock? --Indomitus 10:39, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
That's a good question. I had it planned to do a "smarm" entry -- but perhaps it would be best to do an umbrella-category similiar to the Babylon 5 jokes one, where we can generalize that many Shatner-jokes have happened since the CT days, and here's where they are. Thoughts?
Speaking of the B5 jokes, I'm planning to delete my 'Jerry Doyle for Congress' entry, and repost it under the B5 jokes header, since it was localized to that group anyway. GlitterRock 14:00, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
I'd argue that a lot of the classic shows of the old CT! deserve their own page - Star Trek, Lost in Space, Land of the Giants and Kolchak to name a few. Perhaps under a whole new/page category. Though Shatner probably does transcend them all in his place of of ridicule amongst cappers. Probably best to give him one page with all his gags for now (and of course, don't forget the Shatner dance). --GersonK 17:02, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
Two points on the above:
- Why not make a 'tree' structure for the gags categories that include numerous sub-gags? e.g. for B5 jokes, have a B5 category at the top level, leading to a page about the B5 jokes in-general, but with links to sub-pages on each one of the most-typical B5 joke types?
- 'Shatner' is actually a username too - at WPT if not at IS. (Cappings by username 'Shatner'.) An entry on Shatner the username would be challenging, since it's a group identity.
(Being newbie to wiki programming I can't just create it myself. So I suggest it. -I'll edit it if it's created by older&wiser heads.)

I've gone ahead and added a link for Shatner (the capper). Contrary to my suggestion for cases like keogh where a capper's also a running gag, I'm reserving the page name Shatner ought to be reserved for the actor/gag. --GersonK 22:46, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Ephemeral Threads
I thought it appropriate to mention the "ephemeral" threads that can pop into being during a session, and added the note to the page. As some of these "live" threads can be hilarious, I thought it should be mentioned. Rickubis 10:20 am, 2 June 2006 (Central time)
I want my twenty dollars
Wow, I'd don't think I'd ever actally heard the $20 joke. I think we should crunch down ...same as in town and Twenty dollars, same as in town. into one entry and make one of them redirect to the other. I'd go for the cannonial for (Twenty dollars, same as in town.), since it's actually still used a lot. Any objections? --GersonK 15:13, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
It would make sense to me as well. I have always seen the gag as twenty dollars, same as in town when used in a cap. --meQal 4PM CST 6/4/06
