In the old days of Caption This!, the screengrabber would occasionally give unusual screengrabs, with an image like a scrambled cable channel. This would often solicit a caption about GlitterRock using his Glitterocitor, inspired by the Interocitor from the movie This Island Earth, featured in Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie. The use of the Glitterocitor was to send people to another dimension.

In earlier captions of the sort, the Glitterocitor was not referenced, but people were sent to another dimension (sort of a variant on sending people to the cornfield). Later on, as the running gag grew, GlitterRock was dubbed the guilty party (being a supervillain and all) and the Glitterocitor eventually was created to fit the plot hole.
