A reference taken from the MST3K episode of the film Space Mutiny (Season 9, episode 20) in which Mike Nelson, Tom and Crow continually make references to an upcoming scene of celebration, portrayed as a birthday party for someone named "Sherry" by quipping that the characters ask each other if they've signed a birthday card for her.
Cappers commonly will use the reference when captions feature someone signing something or in pictures of celebration.
