In late 1963, [Beatles manager Brian] Epstein instructed his solicitor, David Jacobs, to resolve the question of merchandising deals. Jacobs let exclusive rights to a Chelsea socialite and dilettante businessman named Nicky Byrne for ten percent. In partnership with five other young Chelsea gadabouts fromthe not-quite-swinging London era, including the sublimely eccentric Lord Peregrine Eliot (the 23 year-old owner of a 6000 acre estate in Cornwall), Byrne set up two main companies, Stramsact Ltd in the UK and Seltaeb Inc in America.

With exquisite timing and not a little style, Byrne and Lord Eliot arrived in New York ahead of the Beatles and rented an office suite on Fifth Avenue where they held court with toy manufacturers and heads of corporations. In the first month alone, Saltaeb (sic) turned a net profit of $97,000 of which a mere $9700 went to NEMS. Within months Saltaeb's (sic) turnover had multiplied into millions of dollars and Byrne's profligate lifestyle soon became the talk of New York business circles. Epstein blanched whenever he thought of the millions lost to NEMS as a consequence of his carelessness and in June 1964, he renegotiated a commission of 46% in anticipation of the Beatles' second tour of the States that August. Byrne's operaton was eventually forced into closure amid a welter of recriminations and litigation, catching a number of merchandising firms run by men of an unforgiving nature, in its slipstream. Legal settlement was not reached until early 1967. Awarded a $10,000 settlement, Byrne bught a yacht and stayed out of harm's way in the Bahamas.

Though I suppose you could just spell it backwards if you wanted to...

  • Alternate Handle(s): Seeknom (used one year for Halloween). UnSeltaeb (the reason for this one is now lost in the fog of my mind). Perhaps there was more, I don't remember anymore.
  • You Can Find Me Capping: I'll tell you later

Personal info

They say the more things change, the more they stay the same. I guess that's me in a nutshell. And that nutshell is getting pretty damn smelly.

I started capping somewhere around 1997. This was back when the CT grabber pumped out GIF images. Dude, that's old school. I did the weekend night shift for a number of years. Then I stopped. Don't know why. Then I found out about the reunion at IS, and now I'm back. Have I really been doing this for all these years? The gray hairs that I see reflecting in my mirror tell me yes.

Sorry I really haven't kept in touch with any of the community over that little dead period between CT and IS. I don't hate you. I'm just lazy.
