Revision as of 21:46, 17 May 2006

I got three questions regarding the Meet the Cappers section. 1)Are we going to fill in the blanks on some of the Cappers that we do know, but who, for whatever reason, haven't been in the Capping Community in forever? 2)In that same vein, how would the entries for Widget and Shandi be done? I think, as CB is doing with the Cappers eGroup, Cappers should enter their memories of those who've passed away. 3) How does one go about loading photos onto this thing? I'd like my photo of me in the tux on my page. It was either that picture, or the picture of me in my boxers, wearing a T-Shirt that said "Bullshit" on it, sitting in front of my computer, downloading porn.

I'm still new to this Wiki stuff and am still learning.

(0) Before we get carried away entering capper data, we may want to settle on a format a la the one cyber had over on the tiki and a way to connect em to their wiki account profiles - eg User:GeronK vs GersonK

(1) As long as the info is right, why not put it in? On the other hand, I'm not gonna lose any sleep if only a small percentage of names have data attached in the short term. Also, as the recent old time night shift gatherings at IS show, capper can return (and it's also a good reminder that there are many distinct sub cultures amongst the cappers).

(2) I'd say there should be a section for other cappers to comment on any given capper, a la [Dem's old Capper A-Z] (although Jazz said he'd update that page if anybody sent him updates. Dunno if they have). We can try to draw info from the various profiles they left behind, but sadly their pages will probably just be bare bones info + people's recollections.

(3) The upload link on the left. Then [[Image:file name|file decription]] And <nowiki>~~~~ leave a sig on comments. The Squiggly button will insert that for you.

Yeah, I'd say that if someone has some info on a Capper, go ahead and put it in. I mean, I don't know alot about BurkeDevlin -- but I know that if Dark Shadows was on, he was sure to be a face in CT capping it. A little blurb like that is a bit of info, at least. It's not a necessity to be sure, but if someone sees a name and has a thought about it along those lines, I think stuff like that can be added in.

My thought was throw every single handle up there known to cap. Then if someone felt they could add something about that capper, they could do it. Or if the person should show up, they can fill in their profile or whatever. My vision when I first thought of this was to get every single scrap of information about cappers and capping down. A list of all capper handles will more than likely result in about half being just names on the list. And that's fine in my book.

I liked Gray's idea about people being able to leave their thoughts about deceased cappers. I was thinking about a memorial page where we could list those who have passed on. Perhaps a graffiti wall there or something?

Using the template

The experimental capper profile template can be dropped into your page. Enter the bold text as it appears, and your own data for the italics. (You should probably leave out the spaces, I just needed those to keep the italics and bolding straight.)

{{capper|ImageName=your image name|ImageDescription=alt text for your image |RealName= your real name |Birthday= as much of your birthday as you want to put online |Occupation= duh |MaritalInfo= are ya getting any? |Kids= have you procreated? |HandleOrigin= So forth and so on |AltHandles= if you want to share. (should these be linked?) }}

You can leave any field out (eg, leave out the image and do capper|RealName= Gerson) and the missing field will just appear as unknown. I'm still working on getting the image to vanish when there isn't one.

Changed MaritalStaus= to MaritalInfo= because that's what it's supposed to be. ;) Also added Kids= parameter because . . . I have kids.

You can copy and paste the following into a capper page and edit where appropriate.

{{capper|ImageName=your image name|ImageDescription=alt text for your image|RealName=your real name|Birthday=as much of your birthday as you want to put online|Occupation=duh|MaritalInfo=are ya getting any?|Kids=have you procreated?|HandleOrigin=So forth and so on|AltHandles=if you want to share.|MyStuff=a history of yourself with as little or as much information you think your fellow cappers can handle about you}} [http://www.capperwiki.com Capper Wiki]

You'll have to place the cursor in front of the URL line and press enter 2x to get it below the Links section of the template.

Now . . . we need to find a way to translate the handle WYSIWYG over to the Handle value. Handles beginning with lower case letters and those with underscores are not reproduced correctly unless manually done so. It was easy when using just using a straight up C and P of the parameters and values over, but using the template takes away that option. I've been reading the template documentation when I can today. It's not as easy to digest as I'd like. But perhaps when I can make sense of it, I'll be able to offer more help with the template idea.
